Hof
Menningarhúsið Hof stands by the harbour in the centre of Akureyri and has been one of the town's landmarks since it opened at Akureyrarvaka in August 2010. Arkþing won the competition for it in 2004 with a circular building cut in two by a walkway running through it, clad on the outside in Icelandic columnar basalt. The name came out of a competition too: 338 entries proposed 241 names and the jury settled unanimously on Hof. In the main hall, Hamraborg, the seats are by Prologus and their upholstery absorbs sound as a seated person in a suit would, so an empty row does not change how the hall sounds. The town's music school occupies the third floor.

- There are marked parking spaces for disabled visitors at the main entrance and a lift connects every floor. Doors are sized for wheelchairs and the building has accessible toilets. The main hall has seats set aside for visitors with reduced mobility, and there are few of them, so the house asks that you say so at the box office. An infrared listening system for hearing aids is available from the box office before an event.
