BaKaBa: Bach, Karólína Eiríksdóttir and Bartók

Presented by North Iceland Symphony Orchestra

A drawing of a bird's nest of woven twigs with three small eggs in it, in gold line on pale paper.

The North Iceland Symphony Orchestra's string quartet builds the name of its spring concert, BaKaBa, from the names of its three composers. It plays contrapuncti from Johann Sebastian Bach's Art of Fugue, in which the same material is mirrored, turned over and inverted from one fugue to the next. Beside them are Karólína Eiríksdóttir's Six Pieces for String Quartet and Béla Bartók's String Quartet No. 1 in A minor, Op. 7, the first of the six, which the players mean to work through one at a time. They are Greta Salóme Stefánsdóttir and Marteinn J. Ingvason Lazarz, violins, Eydís Úlfarsdóttir, viola, and Steinunn Arnbjörg Stefánsdóttir, cello.
