Heimboð: Meta4 in Shaw, Beethoven and Sibelius

Presented by Kammermúsíkklúbburinn

A drawing of a tall standard lamp with a pleated shade, in gold line on pale paper.

The Finnish string quartet Meta4 closes Kammermúsíkklúbburinn's seventieth season, the first quartet from abroad to play for the club in ten years. It opens with Caroline Shaw's Blueprint of 2016, a seven-minute piece that quotes Beethoven's Quartet Op. 18 No. 6 and has not been played in Iceland before, followed by that quartet itself. After the interval comes Jean Sibelius's Voces intimae; Sibelius died in 1957, the year the club was founded. Meta4 has played together since 2001. Its violinists, Antti Tikkanen and Minna Pensola, are married and direct the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland, its violist Atte Kilpeläinen leads the violas of the Helsinki Philharmonic, and Tomas Djupsjöbacka plays cello.
