Prometheus

Presented by Iceland Symphony Orchestra

Barbara Hannigan conducts on a dark stage, lit from the front with both hands raised.
Picture: Marco Borggreve

Barbara Hannigan conducts and sings, and the programme draws on old myths. She sings Sibelius's Luonnotar, a tone poem about the goddess of air and sea who makes the world from pieces of a duck's egg. Bertrand Chamayou is the soloist in Scriabin's Prometheus, Poem of Fire, where the play of colour, light and shadow shapes the music. George Crumb's A Haunted Landscape, Debussy's Syrinx and María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir's Aequora, which draws on the deep ocean, complete the programme. About two hours with an interval.
