The music of Alexandra Chernyshova: Good morning, Madam President

Alexandra Chernyshova, born in 1979 and brought up in Ukraine and Russia, writes operas, symphonies, film scores and songs. Before the interval, ten numbers from her third opera, Good morning, Madam President, are heard for the first time in new arrangements for voices and piano. The opera is about Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, the first woman in the world elected president in a democratic vote, and was first performed in 2021; the arrangements come from a newly published songbook of eighteen numbers from it. After the interval comes the first performance of her first sinfonietta, Magical Sky Iceland, for soprano, choir and orchestra, written in 2015. Its four movements take their cue from the northern lights, and it is dedicated to her husband, the landscape photographer Jón R. Hilmarsson. Opera singers, an opera choir and instrumentalists take part.
