Instrumental recital

Grzegorz Niemczuk plays Chopin

Grzegorz Niemczuk bent low over the keyboard of a grand piano on stage.

The Polish pianist Grzegorz Niemczuk gives his first recital in Reykjavík, on a European tour marking 217 years since Chopin's birth. The whole evening is Chopin, and between the pieces he talks in English about the composer's life and how each work came to be written. The first half holds four nocturnes, the Revolutionary and two more études from Op. 10, the Raindrop Prelude and the second Scherzo. After the interval come a mazurka, a polonaise, three waltzes and the first Ballade, and the evening ends with the Polonaise in A flat, Op. 53, the Heroic. Niemczuk won Poland's 40th national Chopin piano competition in Warsaw in 2010 and has given more than 400 concerts in 37 countries.
