Kammermúsíkklúbburinn: Klein, Nordal, Schnittke and Brahms
Presented by Kammermúsíkklúbburinn

Kammermúsíkklúbburinn, the chamber music club founded in 1957, is in its seventieth season, and its second concert of the winter brings two string trios of the twentieth century. Gideon Klein wrote his in 1944 in the Theresienstadt camp and finished it days before he was sent on to Auschwitz. Alfred Schnittke dedicated his to Alban Berg in 1985, a hundred years after Berg's birth. Jón Nordal's Duo for violin and cello of 1983 stands between them, and after the interval comes Brahms's String Quintet No. 2 in G major, one of his last chamber works. Sigurbjörn Bernharðsson teaches violin at Oberlin in the United States and played for seventeen years in the Pacifica Quartet. With him are Gunnhildur Daðadóttir, violin, Þórunn Ósk Marínósdóttir and Rita Porfiris, viola, and Sigurður Bjarki Gunnarsson and Bryndís Halla Gylfadóttir, cello.
