Þórshafnarkirkja

Þórshafnarkirkja was consecrated on 22 August 1999. It is concrete and built in the traditional manner, with the parish hall on the ground floor; the way in is through the west gable into a porch and from there straight into the nave. There are chairs for a hundred and fifty-six, and a few more can be brought in. The east gable carries a large wooden cross by Jóhann Ingimarsson, brother of sr. Ingimar Ingimarsson, a former parish priest. Where the timbers meet they make a diamond holding glass with five red points, and that part of the cross is lit at all times. The window around the cross rises vertically on either side and closes to a point directly above it. The three bells were dedicated on the second anniversary of the consecration, 26 August 2001.
