Akureyrarkirkja
Akureyrarkirkja was consecrated on 17 November 1940 to a design by Guðjón Samúelsson, who drew Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík as well. Steinmeyer & Co. of Oettingen built the organ in 1961 and the Danish firm P. Bruhn & Søn rebuilt it in 1995; it has 49 stops across three manuals and pedal. Summer concerts have been given here since 1987, for the first twelve years in churches across the north and since 1999 in Akureyrarkirkja alone. They fall on Sundays in July at five o'clock and admission is free. The summer of 2026 was the fortieth year.
