Jón Stefánsson came to Langholtskirkja in 1964 as a stand-in organist, seventeen years old, and stayed to conduct its choir until 2015. He would have turned eighty in July. Four choirs sing in his memory, on the day the church itself was consecrated in 1984: Gradualekór Langholtskirkju, Graduale Nobili, which he founded in 2000, Kór Langholtskirkju and Góðir grannar. Listeners are invited to sing along in several well-known pieces, Locus iste and the Hallelujah chorus among them, and a grant is made from the memorial fund that carries his name. Admission is free.
