Frelsissveit Íslands, Iceland's Liberation Orchestra, which Haukur Gröndal has led since 2010, plays his new piano concerto, written for Davíð Þór Jónsson and the band. It was first heard at the Reykjavík Jazz Festival in Norðurljós in August. The piece runs about fifty minutes in seven movements, written passages alternating with free improvisation, and the players shape its course together on the night. There are eight of them: Davíð Þór at the piano, Sólveig Magnúsdóttir on flute, Haukur Gröndal on clarinet and saxophone, Óskar Guðjónsson on saxophone, Ólafur Jónsson on saxophone and bass clarinet, Guðmundur Pétursson on guitar, Birgir Steinn Theódórsson on bass and Matthías MD Hemstock on drums.
