Skólakór Kársnesskóla

The children's choir of Kársnesskóli in Kópavogur, which began in the autumn of 1975. About eighty children enrolled, the youngest eight and the eldest twelve, and the conductor, Þórunn Björnsdóttir, was twenty-one. She conducted it for forty years; Álfheiður Björgvinsdóttir worked alongside her from 2015 and then took it over. Choir singing is part of the timetable from the third year to the seventh, so every child in the school learns to sing in one. The first concert was at the school Christmas party in 1975, and the choir has since sung the length of the country, worked closely with Kópavogskirkja and travelled to Canada, Japan and widely in Europe. Its first record, Fögnuður, came out in 1983, and many Icelandic composers have written for it.
