Mótettukórinn

A choir founded in 1982 and conducted from the beginning by Hörður Áskelsson. It sings oratorios, passions and requiems as well as unaccompanied choral music from many periods, and it has given the first performances of a good many Icelandic works, among them Áskell Másson and Thor Vilhjálmsson's oratorio Cecilía in 2009, Haukur Tómasson's Flétta in 2011 and Hafliði Hallgrímsson's oratorio Mysterium in 2019. It has sung in cathedrals across Europe and at festivals including the Bergen International Festival, the Nordic church music festival in Gothenburg and the Wiener Festwochen. It took a prize at the International Choral Competition in Cork in 1996, and three gold medals and the Grand Prix at the Cançó Mediterrània competition in Spain in 2014. Its Christmas concerts come round every year.
