Sandgerðiskirkja
Sandgerðiskirkja was drawn by the architect Magnús Ólafsson and consecrated in 1998. It was designed as a church and consecrated as one, but went by the name Safnaðarheimilið í Sandgerði, the Sandgerði parish hall, until 2018, when it was renamed Sandgerðiskirkja-safnaðarheimili. The building is square under a pyramid roof of four triangles meeting at the top, and the triangle is repeated inside, in the parquet floor, the ceiling cladding and the shape of the altar. The altarpiece is seven stained glass windows by Halla Haraldsdóttir showing fish and bread, and steel strips added round them later, in consultation with the architect, form a cross. The font stood in Hvalsneskirkja, the church at Hvalsnes, before it came here. Sveinn Ólafsson, a woodcarver, carved it from oak in 1966, and its bowl is fired clay from Reykjanes.
