Digraneskirkja

Digraneskirkja was drawn by Benjamín Magnússon, built by Hallvarður S. Guðlaugsson and consecrated on 25 September 1994. The architect says he saw an upturned boat: he cut the keel open, let the ribs carry on through the window, and ran a rooflight the length of the keel to call the daylight down. The waves in the roof stand for the waves of the sea and line the ceiling underneath. The service buildings lie around the nave like a defensive wall, which he takes from the old turf churches. Björgvin Tómasson built the organ of nineteen stops and 1128 pipes, and the baptismal bowl is by Jónína Guðnadóttir.
