Iceland Symphony Orchestra 2026–27 · Symphony
Tan Dun & Stravinsky
Presented by Iceland Symphony Orchestra
Tan Dun conducts his own music and Stravinsky's. Soraya Nayyar, the orchestra's principal timpanist, is the soloist in the Water Concerto, where water is the solo instrument. Two works by Stravinsky are heard in Iceland for the first time: the early Fireworks and the tone poem Song of the Nightingale, which he made from his opera of 1914 and which tells how the nightingale's song melted the emperor's heart. Tan Dun won an Academy Award, a Grammy and a BAFTA for his music for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and is a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for water. About two hours with an interval.
