Storgårds conducts Bruckner 2

Two works reach the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for the first time: Clara Schumann's piano concerto and Bruckner's second symphony. She wrote the concerto at fourteen, as Clara Wieck, and she married Robert Schumann a few years later and took his surname. The symphony was nicknamed the Symphony of Pauses for the silences that divide one part of it from the next; Bruckner cut many of them in a later version and the name stayed. John Storgårds conducts, and he plays the violin solo himself in three romances by Clara Schumann in Bernard Rofe's arrangement. Alexandra Dariescu is the soloist in the concerto.
