Freyja

Freyja by Hugi Guðmundsson has its first performance, written to a text by the Canadian author Julie Salverson. The work draws on the life of Margrét Benedictsson, 1866 to 1956, who left Iceland for Canada at twenty-one, founded the magazine Freyja there and campaigned for women's suffrage. Barbara Hannigan conducts and sings the solo part. Beethoven's second symphony follows the interval. About two hours with an interval.
