Iceland Symphony Orchestra 2026–27 · Symphony

Dalene plays Adès

Presented by Iceland Symphony Orchestra

Two works by Sibelius frame the concert. The Oceanides is a tone poem about the sea and the play of the goddesses in it, and the seventh symphony is in a single movement, as the tone poem is. Between them the Swedish violinist Johan Dalene plays Thomas Adès's violin concerto Concentric Paths, and the orchestra plays the passacaglia from Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes, an opera in which the sea shapes the lives of the characters. Daníel Bjarnason conducts. Under two hours with an interval.
