Chamayou plays Ravel

Presented by Iceland Symphony Orchestra

Bertrand Chamayou leans on a railing and looks back over his shoulder, with city rooftops and a white church on a hill behind him.

Barbara Hannigan conducts and sings, and Bertrand Chamayou plays the piano. Chamayou is the orchestra's artist in residence for the 2026–27 season. Three of the evening's four composers are French. Britten's Les Illuminations sets poems by Arthur Rimbaud for soprano and strings, Messiaen's Oiseaux exotiques is built from the song of birds from far away and scored for piano, wind and percussion, and Ravel's Piano Concerto in G draws on the folk music of the Basque Country. Scenes from Albert Roussel's ballet Le Festin de l'araignée are played as well. About two hours with an interval.
