Advent at the Symphony

Presented by Iceland Symphony Orchestra

Matthew Halls conducts a programme from the classical period. It opens with the ballet music from Mozart's opera Idomeneo, which has long been played on its own in concert halls. Geirþrúður Anna Guðmundsdóttir is the soloist in Haydn's cello concerto in D. Then comes a symphony in C by Marianna Martines, usually named as the first woman to have written one, and the evening closes with Mozart's Linz symphony, written during a short stay in that Austrian city in 1783. About two hours with an interval.
