Bálrautt teppi úr bútasaum

Presented by Reykjavík Opera Days

The hand-drawn title of Bálrautt teppi úr bútasaum, with a fish and falling leaves.

A new opera for children, and it wants to know why autumn gets so few songs, and why the ones it gets are all grey. Gísli Jóhann Grétarsson wrote the music and Oda Fiskum the words and the staging. It is their third piece together in the Nordic company Operakollektivet, and it is new this year. A mezzo-soprano and a harp, arias in rhyme, ink drawings, and questions of the kind children actually ask, including whether ketchup tastes better eaten through a mitten. Sung in Icelandic, in Sólveig Sigurðardóttir's translation.
