Sigurdís Tryggvadóttir: Bergmál fjallanna

Sigurdís Tryggvadóttir, a composer, pianist and singer from Ártún in Blöndudalur, brings her first album, Bergmál fjallanna (The Echo of the Mountains), home to the north. The music has its roots in jazz and takes its inspiration from the mountains she grew up among. She has set poems by her great-uncle Jónas Tryggvason (1916–1983), whose songs are still sung by Karlakór Bólstaðarhlíðarhrepps, and the album also carries his own settings of Davíð Stefánsson and Þorsteinn Valdimarsson. She plays with the Polish double bassist Mariusz Praśniewski and the Hungarian drummer Péter Horváth, and all three live in Copenhagen. Waffles and coffee are served in the church afterwards. The album is on sale on vinyl. Admission is free.
