Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir

A soprano who began her operatic career at the Berlin State Opera and has been an ensemble member at Theater Basel, where her roles run from Monteverdi's Drusilla and Verdi's Gilda to the angel in Messiaen's Saint François d'Assise and Philip Glass's Einstein on the Beach. In the 2025/26 season she was a Rising Star of the European Concert Hall Organisation, which took her to Harpa, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Philharmonie de Paris. She has made two records for Deutsche Grammophon: Notturno with Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson, and Poems, written with the composer Viktor Orri Árnason. She was named singer of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2021.
