Bústaðakirkja

Bústaðakirkja was drawn by Helgi Hjálmarsson and consecrated on 28 November 1971. The first thing a visitor sees is Leifur Breiðfjörð's glass in the windows. To keep from weighting them too heavily, he hung the cross itself in front of the glass, finely made, and scattered smaller repetitions of it so that every one of them points at its centre. The work is abstract and was made with a text from the Book of Revelation in mind. The organ came from Th. Frobenius & Sønner of Copenhagen and has thirty-one stops over three manuals and a pedal; Guðni Þ. Guðmundsson, then the church's organist, chose the stops and Mogens Petersen voiced it. The grand piano in the church belongs to Kammermúsikklúbburinn, the chamber music club. The bells hang in a concrete bell-gate outside the building.
