A soprano moves across the water of an outdoor swimming pool in an enormous dress built from umbrellas, drawn slowly along by two attendants, singing. Victorine Pasman, who conceived the piece and designed the dress, drew on seventeenth century clothing, the flat Dutch landscape, and old stories of mermaids and women washed ashore. When the light goes, the dress begins to glow.
