Summer Concerts in Skálholt

Baroque music on period instruments and new Icelandic work in Skálholt Cathedral every summer since 1975, now at the turn of June and July.

The Summer Concerts in Skálholt have been held in Skálholt Cathedral since 1975. The harpsichordist Helga Ingólfsdóttir founded them, and in 1986 she began the tradition of a resident composer.

Two things run through it. Early music is played on period instruments, and Bachsveitin í Skálholti has long had a standing place in it. Beside that is new Icelandic music, which the festival exists in part to encourage. It is held at the turn of June and July.

The tenor Benedikt Kristjánsson is its artistic director and manager.
