Berjadagar
A family music festival in Ólafsfjörður each summer, where opera, art song and chamber music share the bill with jazz and folk songs.
Berjadagar, berry days, is a family music festival of three or four days in Ólafsfjörður, in the summer. It began in 1998 as an evening at Menningarhúsið Tjarnarborg, the town's cultural hall, under another name, and the year after it grew into the festival. The pianist Örn Magnússon founded it and directed it until 2011.
The programme is broad: opera, art song and chamber works, and jazz, Brazilian popular music and folk songs from Iceland and elsewhere as well. The concerts are held in Tjarnarborg and in Ólafsfjarðarkirkja, a church built and consecrated in 1915, among other places.
Since 2013 the cellist Ólöf Sigursveinsdóttir has been its artistic director and organiser.
