Samkór Kópavogs

Samkór Kópavogs was founded on 18 October 1966. Among its founders was Jan Morávek, who conducted it until his sudden death in 1970; he was of Czech descent and grew up in Vienna. Its first chairman, Valur Fannar, was a founder too. It is a mixed choir and draws its singers from Kópavogur and from across the capital region. It gives an annual concert in the town and has sung in every one of Kópavogur's twin towns in the Nordic countries. In the summer of 2016 it crossed the Atlantic for nine days and sang at the Icelandic festival in Mountain, North Dakota, and at the festival in Gimli, Manitoba. It also gave concerts in Árborg and in Grundarkirkja in the Argyle district, where no Icelandic choir had sung before. It numbers about fifty singers and rehearses in Digraneskirkja. Lenka Mátéová has conducted it since January 2024.
