Björn Steinar Sólbergsson

Organist and director of music at Hallgrímskirkja. He was organist at Akureyrarkirkja in the north for twenty years, and he teaches the organ at Tónskóli þjóðkirkjunnar and at the Iceland University of the Arts. He studied at the music school in Akranes and at Tónskóli þjóðkirkjunnar, then in Italy with James E. Goettsche and in France at the Conservatoire National de Région de Rueil-Malmaison with Susan Landale, where he took a soloist's diploma in organ, the Prix de virtuosité, in 1986. He has given recitals in Iceland, across the Nordic countries, in Europe and in North America, and has been the soloist with the Iceland Symphony, the North Iceland Symphony, the Stavanger Symphony and the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. His recordings include the complete organ works of Páll Ísólfsson and Jón Leifs's organ concerto.
