Grafarvogskirkja

Grafarvogskirkja stands at Fjörgyn in the eastern suburbs of Reykjavík, built to a design by Finnur Björgvinsson and Hilmar Þór Björnsson, who won the competition for it with a three-aisled church in the manner of much older ones. The nave is concrete faced in stone, and at the end of it stands Leifur Breiðfjörð's stained glass window Kristnitakan, some six metres wide and twelve high, which serves as the altarpiece as well. White metal panels in the ceiling govern the reverberation, and it lengthens as the altar comes nearer. The parish is raising money for a new organ.
